Minutes Archive 1894-2013

Civil parishes, and parish councils, were established under the Local Government Act 1894. Parish Councils took over local oversight of civic duties in rural areas. Civil parish boundaries were initially those of the existing ecclesiastical parishes and townships, in each of which a variety of groups had previously looked after different aspects of local administration.

N.B. It was not a requirement of the 1894 Act that the chairman be a member of the parish council.
Current Councillor Andrew Taylor is the second-longest serving Tatham Parish councillor, having been a council member continuously since his election in 1991. The record is held by Bill Wilson of Greenhall, who served for nearly 37 years from 1962 until his retirement in 1999.
