Free event in the Forest of Bowland funded by Farming in Protected Landscapes.
Join Rod Everett to walk around Backsbottom Farm, which was badly damaged by Wray floods in
1967 and see the variety of flood management techniques he has used. Prepare your land for the
extreme weather conditions that climate change is likely to throw at us in the near future.
These include check dams, contour swales, contour tree planting, restoring blanket bog, attenuation
dam, adding micro-biology in conjunction with an Erth Panbuster, and In River Training with careful
rock placement. Photos from the Wray Flood showing the devastating effects of extreme rainfall
will be on display.
Rod works on a number of different flood management projects around Lancaster as a consultant
with the Lune Rivers Trust.
