New Restricted Byway Aikengill Road to Ringstones Lane

February 2025.

The creation of this Public Right of Way (PRoW) was approved by Lancashire County Council Regulatory Committee in June 2024, on the recommendation of Council officers, and in response to an application for a Definitive Map Modification Order (DMMO) submitted in 2020 by the British Horse Society. The byzantine legal process by which the Byway can come into being has now taken a further step, with the publication of the Order on 11th December. However, there is yet another stage: confirmation of the Order, and before that can happen, there is a public consultation, which closes on 3rd April. In the absence of any representations or objections, the County Council will be then, at last, be able to confirm the Order. The DMMO application, and the Order, can be viewed in the Register of Public Rights of Way Applications.

There are currently nearly 300 DMMO applications waiting to be considered by Lancashire’s Regulatory Committee, which meets 5 times a year, and is able to consider 4 or 5 of them – depending on other business – at each meeting.
