Morecambe & Lunesdale MP Lizzi Collinge visited Lowgill yesterday (Thursday 28th August) to learn about the concerns of residents, and of the parish council, arising from frequent instances of vehicles exceeding the 30 mph speed limit. The meeting was attended by all parish councillors, a number of residents, and City Councillor Joyce Pritchard.

Other highways matters raised included Lowgill’s very poor road surfaces, the lack of clear road markings, and the narrowing of the road due to encroachment of hedges and grass verges. Several possible measures were considered, including Speed Indicator Devices (SPIDs), a Community Speed Watch scheme, and a permanent 20 mph speed limit throughout the village. It was acknowledged that any such measures would need support and co-operation from Lancashire Highways and the police.
Lizzi Collinge undertook to write to the County Council to ask them to facilitate and/or implement effective measures which will alleviate local concerns.
