February 2024. Users of the footbridge over Croasdale Beck below the Church of the Good Shepherd will be saddened to learn that an attractive signpost along the public footpath has been removed, and is presumed to have been stolen. The specially made cast-iron sign had been installed in 2010 by the Peak & Northern Footpaths Society to celebrate the 90th birthday of one its members, and her schoolday walks, when aged 7-11, between her home at Higher Thrushgill and what is now the Old School – a journey of over 2 miles, done regardless of the weather. A similar signpost was installed at the same time near Thrushgill, and is fortunately still in place. The PNFS has been informed, and any information about the missing sign would be welcomed both by them and by the parish council. The loss is particularly disappointing after the many other path improvements along the affected paths in recent years.
